Part 1-Setup

mind_mistress: so let's see...
mind_mistress: Where are we going again?
colleen: on a boat heading north
mind_mistress: yes, but I'm not clear on where we're ending up
colleen: northern shores of scotland
mind_mistress: So unoccupied Celt territory?
colleen: yes perhaps the inverness area
colleen: on the shores of Loch Ness
mind_mistress: Pick a place... it's your boat ride ;)
colleen: Inverness would work
colleen: besides...it has a monster
colleen: castle Urquat...probably not built yet
mind_mistress: Okay, Inverness
mind_mistress: We assume a village on the shore and port?
colleen: its up a large river leading to th Loch about 100k from the coast
mind_mistress: Okay
colleen: beautiful country. the coast more rugged and treeless
mind_mistress: I see it on the map :)
colleen: around the Loch heavily forested
mind_mistress: Inverness is a ways before the Loch
colleen: I thought it was on the north shore of the Loch?
mind_mistress: and Inverness is a long sailing from Londinium
colleen: yes
colleen: and york
mind_mistress: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=inverness
mind_mistress: I don't see a seashore at York
mind_mistress: did we make a mistake?
colleen: oops
mind_mistress: :P
colleen: looking at york
mind_mistress: Nevermind, in this world it's a port town
mind_mistress: Never let the facts get in the way of a good story...
colleen: there you go :)
mind_mistress: If I was trying to reach the clans, I'd be going to Aberdeen instead I think... a lot closer and

still deep in celtic territory
colleen: Aberdeen is fine
mind_mistress: http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~s285238/DECB/DECB-Emap.html
mind_mistress: Even Edinburgh is deep inside, on this map
colleen: Edinburgh is a great city
mind_mistress: Anyway, your call, we should pick one and get started :)
colleen: I'm good with any of them Edinburgh is closest
mind_mistress: Done
mind_mistress: All right, so the plan is to go there...
mind_mistress: trade the steel...
mind_mistress: and... ?
colleen: and continue the operation providing the celts with the means to fight back
mind_mistress: :)
colleen: and to stay away from Druidbane
mind_mistress: ;)
mind_mistress: hmmmm
colleen: just was looking at a bit of history on wikipedia
mind_mistress: Anything useful?
mind_mistress: I'm trying to figure out what is going to happen
colleen: a few things
mind_mistress: Well?
colleen: I'm trying to send link
mind_mistress: it's not happening
colleen: The origin of the city's name in English is understood to come from the Brythonic Din Eidyn (Fort of Eidyn) from the time when it was a Gododdin hillfort. In the 1st century the Romans recorded the Votadini as a Brythonic tribe in the area, and about AD 600 the poem Y Gododdin, using the Brythonic form of that name, describes warriors feasting "in Eidin's great hall".
colleen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh#Etymology
mind_mistress: okay, so it's a fort
colleen: at this time
mind_mistress: Not sure what kind of fort
colleen: nor I
mind_mistress: Do you want to do sea adventures or just get there?
colleen: I'm easy
colleen: open to all types of ideas
colleen: got a sea adventure in mind?
mind_mistress: not really
mind_mistress: A lone viking longship is maneuverable, but not a match for a warship
colleen: it's good for smuggling and fleeing
colleen: lets just head to our destination
mind_mistress: Okay :)
colleen: work out the details as we go
colleen: :)
mind_mistress: Sounds good :)
colleen: great, I'm sure something else will get trown in the mix
mind_mistress: yup
mind_mistress: Ready to start?
colleen: yes

Part 2 - The Trance

mind_mistress: then as you're sitting there...
mind_mistress: staring at the bright screen...
mind_mistress: you can feel the weight of your body,..
mind_mistress: and you can feel your breathing...
mind_mistress: noticing how fast or slow your breathing is...
mind_mistress: and you can feel...
mind_mistress: how shallow or deep it is...
mind_mistress: that's right....
mind_mistress: and you can start feeling...
mind_mistress: the reddish liquid inside...
mind_mistress: everywhere inside...
mind_mistress: as if you were hollow...
mind_mistress: and filled with it...
mind_mistress: cool...
mind_mistress: and heavy...
mind_mistress: more and more...
mind_mistress: with every breath...
mind_mistress: especially...
mind_mistress: paying attention inside the feet...
mind_mistress: to the feelings...
mind_mistress: of tingling....
mind_mistress: inside the feet...
mind_mistress: the red liquid...
mind_mistress: cool and heavy...
mind_mistress: and allowing the tingling to spread...
mind_mistress: inside the feet...
mind_mistress: more and more with every breath....
mind_mistress: and soon to the ankles...
mind_mistress: and the calves...
mind_mistress: that's right...
mind_mistress: and can you feel it spreading ?
colleen: yes up the legs
mind_mistress: yesss
mind_mistress: very good...
mind_mistress: and inside the hands...
mind_mistress: feeling that red liquid...
mind_mistress: cool and heavy...
mind_mistress: and getting more and more...
mind_mistress: tingly...
mind_mistress: with every breath...
mind_mistress: as you pay attention to it...
mind_mistress: spreading...
mind_mistress: in the fingers...
mind_mistress: the palms...
mind_mistress: soon the wrists...
mind_mistress: and lower arms...
mind_mistress: that's right...
mind_mistress: very good...
mind_mistress: and while it's spreading there...
mind_mistress: how far up from the feet are you tingling now?
colleen: shoulders and neck
mind_mistress: Mmmmm.... yesss.... and you can open the toes now...
mind_mistress: letting the feet drain...
mind_mistress: blank and empty...
mind_mistress: hollow and numb...
mind_mistress: so nicely....
mind_mistress: so right...
mind_mistress: draining the feet...
mind_mistress: and soon the ankles...
mind_mistress: and the calves...
mind_mistress: enjoying going deeper into trance with every breath...
mind_mistress: mmmm....
colleen: mmmmm
mind_mistress: yesss
mind_mistress: draining away...
mind_mistress: so nicely...
mind_mistress: and while the lower body drains...
mind_mistress: you can open the palms too...
mind_mistress: draining the hands...
mind_mistress: so nicely...
mind_mistress: becoming blank and empty...
mind_mistress: the hands...
mind_mistress: and then the wrists...
mind_mistress: and lower arms...
mind_mistress: hollow and numb...
mind_mistress: so nice...
mind_mistress: so right...
mind_mistress: all flowing out...
mind_mistress: and while they drain...
mind_mistress: how far up from the feet are you empty numb now?
colleen: to the neck
mind_mistress: yessss
mind_mistress: draining...
mind_mistress: and fading...
mind_mistress: fading away...
mind_mistress: into the blankness...
mind_mistress: more and more...
mind_mistress: *Trance Trigger*
colleen: I obey
mind_mistress: very good...
mind_mistress: and what is left of you now?
colleen: nothing
mind_mistress: all gone...
mind_mistress: so good...

Part 3 - The Adventure

mind_mistress: drifting...
mind_mistress: to that place where you are Cinnea...
mind_mistress: on the viking Longship...
mind_mistress: which is approaching the shores of Edinburgh...
mind_mistress: Din Eidyn
mind_mistress: seeing yourself there...
mind_mistress: and drifting closer...
mind_mistress: yes?
colleen: yes
mind_mistress: closer...
mind_mistress: to your body there...
mind_mistress: until you're sooo close...
mind_mistress: you drift into your body...
mind_mistress: all the way in...
mind_mistress: seeing out of your own eyes...
mind_mistress: and hearing the sounds of the sea and talk...
mind_mistress: smelling the rotting fish...
mind_mistress: and feeling your body...
mind_mistress: more and more...
mind_mistress: with every breath...
mind_mistress: in your body...
mind_mistress: Lucius: "I can't wait to get off this boat!"
colleen: I love the sea.
colleen: the salt air
mind_mistress: Clara: "I love the sea... just not the stench..."
mind_mistress: "actually, scratch that... I think I'm going to be sick again...."
mind_mistress: she goes over to the edge of the boat
mind_mistress: dry heaving
mind_mistress: as the Vikings laugh
colleen: poor thing
mind_mistress: Lucius: "I can't say I blame her."
colleen: we will be asore soon
mind_mistress: "That fish... Phiew!"
colleen: the fish I won't miss
mind_mistress: Skjold approaches: "Skjold said he would bring you, and has. See! The land is near!"
colleen: "Brigit who do we contact here?"
mind_mistress: Brigit looks up
mind_mistress: "I don't know"
mind_mistress: "You think I know every single Celt?"
colleen: "They're your people"
colleen: "do you know anyone here?"
mind_mistress: "Oh right, and I know a Saxon named Thorsvith. You know him?"
mind_mistress: "Surely being a Saxon... they're your people..."
mind_mistress: she sticks out her toungue
colleen: "and yes I do know him"
mind_mistress: she rolls her eyes
colleen: sticking out my tongue
mind_mistress: "We just need to find who's in charge... that shouldn't be too hard. Getting an audience will take a

bit longer"
colleen: "we need to contact someone to help us"
mind_mistress: Bjold: "Bjold remembers this place! Good pillage last time!"
mind_mistress: Lucius: "Uh oh"
colleen: "you say the women take care of business here"
mind_mistress: Brigit: "Yes"
colleen: "You pillaged here?"
mind_mistress: Bjold: "Yes, it was a grand adventure! I wrote a poem about it. Want to hear?"
colleen: "no"
mind_mistress: Lucius holds his head in his hands
mind_mistress: Brigit looks concerned
mind_mistress: Clara looks green... but that's normal for the last few days
colleen: "maybe they won't remember"
mind_mistress: Lucius: "Great... this is just grrrreat"
mind_mistress: Skjold: "No, they remember, see the family crest on our sail?"
mind_mistress: he cheerfully points
mind_mistress: "We bring honor to our clan! Be remembered in stories!"
mind_mistress: Lucius: "This just keeps getting better and better..."
colleen: "why did you bring us to a place you pillaged?"
mind_mistress: Skjold: "What? You asked to come here. Skjold brings you here"
colleen: "we won't get a good reception"
colleen: "you didn't tell me you pilaged this place"!
mind_mistress: Skjold: "Hmmm. Forgot"
colleen: "That would have been good to know"
mind_mistress: "So many places. So many raids"
mind_mistress: "Just came back to me when Bjold said about it"
colleen: "Gods help us"
colleen: "alright people, think!"
mind_mistress: Melric wanders closer... "Is there a problem?"
colleen: "No problem. Skjold just has met these people before...WHEN HE KILLED THEM!"
mind_mistress: Melric: "Oh... WHAT??????"
colleen: I stare fiercly at Skjold
mind_mistress: Skjold smiles and says: "Did not kill that many".
colleen: "Oh, that makes all the difference"
mind_mistress: "What is number your poem says, Bjold?"
colleen: I advance on him
mind_mistress: Skjold: "Want him to tell poem?"
colleen: "maybe if we gave them your body as a peace offering"
mind_mistress: Bjold launches into recitation: "When many men merry slew... wanting 50 heads did do"
mind_mistress: Brigit: "Kinda catchy rhyme..."
colleen: "And we can trow in Bjolds for good measure"
mind_mistress: Bjold bows to her, looking pleased
mind_mistress: Brigit starts laughing, "This is soooo ridiculous, it's funny"
mind_mistress: Lucius glares at her
colleen: "Skjold, lower your crest and raise a white flag"
mind_mistress: Skjold: "But... but... family honor!!!"
mind_mistress: "Cannot lower crest, it is on main sail. Can just lower sail, and row"
colleen: "If they think we are hostile they will raise your family honor up the pole"!
mind_mistress: the Vikings grumble about rowing
colleen: "THEN ROW!"
mind_mistress: Skjold to Bjold: "We have white flag?"
mind_mistress: Bjold: "We traded it"
mind_mistress: Skjold: "What about second white flag?"
mind_mistress: Bjold: "I made it into a bag"
mind_mistress: Skjold: "what about THIRD white flag?"
colleen: "what do we have that is white"
colleen: "anything?"
colleen: "any white cloth at all?"
mind_mistress: Bjold: "Made bandages after last pillage"
mind_mistress: Skjold thinks, then says: "Get the bag."
mind_mistress: Bjold goes to get it
colleen: "there are men approaching the pier
mind_mistress: and comes back... it's been sewn simply into a burlap type bag, but wasn't cut, just folded over
mind_mistress: Brigit grabs it...
mind_mistress: dumps the content
mind_mistress: and starts unstitching it quickly with a knive
colleen: "hurry"
mind_mistress: Melric points to the shore: "They're sending the welcome committee... three ships..."
colleen: "they don't look happy to see us"
mind_mistress: Bjold: "You can see their faces?"
colleen: "no their Bows"
mind_mistress: Lucius: "How about lowering that sail... NOW!!!"
mind_mistress: "bows?"
colleen: weapons
mind_mistress: Skjold: "Oh, if you insist"
mind_mistress: He gets busy lowering the sail...
colleen: "we INSIST"
mind_mistress: Brigit hands Bjold the the flag: "Put that up! NOW!"
mind_mistress: Bjold smiles and gets to it
colleen: "quickly"
mind_mistress: the sail is going down
mind_mistress: gets tied
mind_mistress: and the rowers start
mind_mistress: Bjold calling out rythm
mind_mistress: while he raises the white flag
colleen: "ROW SLOW, DON'T THREATEN THEM"
mind_mistress: the ships are getting closer
mind_mistress: Clara: "I hate sailing"
colleen: "Brigit you speak their language"
mind_mistress: she nods
mind_mistress: Brigit: "We should stop rowing now"
mind_mistress: "And show our hands"
colleen: "Tell them we are friends"
mind_mistress: "No weapons"
colleen: "stop rowing, raise hands"
mind_mistress: they ignore you
colleen: "SKJOLD!?"
mind_mistress: Skjold: "Stop rowing. Put hands up"
mind_mistress: they grumble
mind_mistress: store the oars
mind_mistress: and put hands up
mind_mistress: you can see faces now on the other ships
colleen: "SMILE"
mind_mistress: their smiles are almost worst than their frowns
colleen: "GODS"
mind_mistress: Melric: "I wish I knew the Druid sea signals"
colleen: "WAVE"
mind_mistress: They're getting close enough to shoot now
mind_mistress: Bows are aimed at you...
colleen: "MELRIC! Can you help?"
mind_mistress: let's hope no one loses their nerves
colleen: "keep hands up"
mind_mistress: Melric: "I can do showy things, but that could set them off. I don't know the signals. Oh."
colleen: "SKJOLD! LET THEM BOARD"
mind_mistress: Melric: "I know! Clara, Brigit, sing with me!!!"
mind_mistress: he starts a song in gaelic
colleen: "SING"!
mind_mistress: sounds like a child's song
mind_mistress: and they join in
mind_mistress: you pick up the tune...
mind_mistress: it's very short and simple
mind_mistress: You're in hearing range
mind_mistress: The archers look puzzled
colleen: I start to sing with them
mind_mistress: the Vikings start singing too
colleen: I whisper "what are we singing?"
colleen: "please don't kill us?"
mind_mistress: "It's called "This Ae Night""
mind_mistress: "everyone knows this song as a child"
mind_mistress: they get to boarding distance
colleen: "AH" :)
mind_mistress: and throw cords
colleen: "welcome them Skjold"
mind_mistress: The Vikings grab the ropes and tie them to the ship
mind_mistress: then put up their hands
mind_mistress: letting the Celts bring their ship closer
mind_mistress: Melric: "We can stop singing now"
mind_mistress: The Vikings keep singing
mind_mistress: they're enjoying this!
mind_mistress: waving their hands in rythm
colleen: "Skjold, stop singing"
mind_mistress: Lucius: "Great... Viking love singing"
mind_mistress: Skjold barks an order and the singing stops
colleen: "Brigit, greet them"
mind_mistress: You see one man on the other ship come close: "Who are you??"
mind_mistress: Brigit: "WE ARE OF THE NORTHERN CLANS"
colleen: "we are friends"
mind_mistress: "WE HAVE HIRED THIS SHIP TO BRING GOODS TO OUR CLANS"
mind_mistress: Man: "This ship has attacked us last year. One of you, come aboard"
colleen: "this ship yes... but not this crew"
mind_mistress: "and explain why we shouldn't sink you"
mind_mistress: "You had the family crest... no Viking would sail with another's"
mind_mistress: Bjold is about to speak...
mind_mistress: taking a big gulp of air...
colleen: "Shut up"
mind_mistress: he closes his mouth
mind_mistress: but pouts
colleen: "who do we send"?
mind_mistress: man: "Hand us your weapons, hilt first"
mind_mistress: the Vikings look unhappy
colleen: "DO iT"
mind_mistress: they start making a pile of weapons between the rowers in the middle, grumbling
mind_mistress: Melric: "Do you want one man to hand them to you one at a time?"
colleen: "Brigit, hand them one of the blades"
mind_mistress: she picks one sword up, by the blade
mind_mistress: and walks over to hand it to the man's second
colleen: "offer it as a gift"
mind_mistress: "I offer in peace the bond of the mother's son"
colleen: "a gift of Steel"
mind_mistress: he looks at it appreciatively
mind_mistress: and hands it behind him
mind_mistress: man: "The rest"
mind_mistress: she goes back for another three swords
mind_mistress: this will take a while
mind_mistress: the archers seem to be relaxing,
mind_mistress: arrows half cocked, pointing skyward
colleen: "there is much more where this comes from"
mind_mistress: man: "What is your business"
colleen: "trade"
colleen: "and rebellion"
mind_mistress: he looks wary
mind_mistress: "Which rebellion?"
mind_mistress: Skjold whispers to you: "Our weapons not be part of the deal"
colleen: "the Romans are at the wall and will soon press north"
mind_mistress: man: "And?"
colleen: "you will need steel to fend them off"
mind_mistress: man: "And?"
colleen: "we can get you steel"
mind_mistress: "How?"
colleen: "at first by smuggling..."
mind_mistress: he puts up his hand
colleen: "then by teaching you the secrets of steel"
mind_mistress: "Come aboard, we will talk"
colleen: Brigit and I go aboard
mind_mistress: he takes you to the other side of the ship, for privacy
mind_mistress: "So what is going on here?"
mind_mistress: "And why is a Druid on a murderous longship?
mind_mistress: he looks to Brigit
colleen: "we come to help to defend you from the Romans"
mind_mistress: he laughs a bitter laugh
mind_mistress: "You and what army?"
colleen: "our steel, your army"
mind_mistress: his eyes narrow
colleen: "we must unite the clans together"
colleen: "to defeat a common enemy"
mind_mistress: "I am Trystan"
mind_mistress: "You are?"
colleen: Cinnea
colleen: "and this is Brigit"
mind_mistress: "Ladies," he nods.
mind_mistress: Brigit: "We serve Brigit of the smithy"
mind_mistress: his eyes go wide
mind_mistress: but for now...
mind_mistress: it's time to drift out...
mind_mistress: return to wakefullness at the count of 1
mind_mistress: remembering your experiences vividly...
mind_mistress: 9
mind_mistress: 8
mind_mistress: 7
mind_mistress: 6
mind_mistress: 5
mind_mistress: 4
mind_mistress: 3
mind_mistress: 2
mind_mistress: 1

mind_mistress: A weekend of Viking spirituality... cause that's essentially what I practice. :D
colleen: Nice!

colleen: :)
colleen: I need to go soon
mind_mistress: Yes
colleen: so two or three weeks?
mind_mistress: Though I'm playing them as Konan the Barbarian type fools... but it makes for a fun story

mind_mistress: Bye!

Epilogue

Sadly, the sessions didn't continue after this, but I can tell you a bit more. The Romans built Hadrian's wall to isolate the Northern tribes around the year 150, and the whole Roman occupation lasted until around the year 400. At that point, the Saxons (early Germans) basically drove them out and settled there, after decades of conflict. The century that followed had Christians rising to power in Rome, and the whole empire collapsed within a hundred years. Romanized Britain had been forcefully converted to Christianity in the 300's, along with the rest of the Empire, while Scotland (Northern Britain) was converted in the 400's.

The Romans never did conquer the Northern tribes, being content to hold the central and southern parts of Britain while imposing taxes on anyone who traveled across Hadrian's Wall. So let me tell you what happened:

Cinnea, Brigit, Clara, Melric and Lucius were able to live out fairly happy lives in the Northlands, and Cinnea had many beautiful children whom she adored. The amulet wouldn't let it be any other way. She was happy to be a mother, a student of Druid magic and a shrewd merchant at the market. Their steel made it up there, but it wasn't really needed. The Romans left them alone. Clara and Melric dated for a few years, before she dumped him for a younger man who could better satisfy her. Brigit helped raise Cinnea's children and teach them the Old Ways. Lucius was a good father and discovered he had great talent as a dancer, winning the village competition one year.

Druidbane died from trying to swallow a cat, which he swore he'd do if he didn't catch our merry band of outlaws within a year. No one came to his funeral, not even the Roman priest, and even grass refused to grow over his grave. The whole cemetary eventually became a foul smelling bog which people avoided. Cinnea's youngest daughter abandoned the Druid arts and became a warrior instead, while one of her sons became a very skilled blacksmith. Her youngest son though, well, he found the amulet one day, and well, he asked about the spell and... let's say she had one less son and one more buxom red headed daughter who brought joy to many lads.

The End.
